Words from Glenda

A few words from Sunrise Foundation's CEO, Glenda Stokes.

Wow, what a fabulous start to 2025, with the news that endowments are now over $10 million. It’s so exciting for us, because the more we build endowments, the more we can distribute by way of grants to worthy local causes from our annual funding round.

We’re starting to get feedback from the groups that received grants from last year’s funding round. We awarded 70 grants worth over $525,000 and there’s only room in our newsletter for a fraction of their stories. Like us on Facebook to read more about groups we have supported and the fabulous mahi they are doing.

We are thrilled to have two new funds launched recently for Gisborne Volunteer Coastguard and a trust transfer to establish the Tourism Eastland Legacy fund, with more to be launched in the coming months. As these funds grow it will help their long-term sustainability by ensuring a grant every year, forever from their fund.

With the end of the fiscal year almost here, it’s a timely reminder that if you donate to Sunrise before 31 March 2025 you will qualify for a 33.3% tax benefit, to the limit of your taxable income. With more than 60 different funds there is something close to everyone’s heart, or you can support our General fund. It is from this fund that we grant from in our annual funding round.

Sunrise is not just for the rich and famous, it’s for everyone. Welcome to our new donors who have signed up to give regularly through automatic payment. Imagine if 20 more people signed up to give $10 a week, that would be almost $10,500 a year - what a difference that would make to local causes over time.
