Making your clients’ giving go further, forever.

Advisors

Professional Advisors are key to helping people decide where best to leave their legacy.

Sunrise Foundation can help your clients leave a personal, enduring legacy that will benefit their community forever. Gifts to Sunrise need not be at the expense of providing for family; some Sunrise donors choose to do both – leaving a percentage to family, and a percentage to the community via Sunrise.

We can provide a variety of giving options for your clients, on a timeframe which suits them best. We can speak with your clients about philanthropy and where the great, impactful work is taking place in our community. We can help to design the right plan so that your clients can make charitable gifts that allow them to gain tax benefits during their lifetime, while maintaining their financial security and looking after family members.

How we can help

We can provide advice and resources on how to include philanthropy in your wealth planning conversations.

At no cost to you, we can:

  • Offer tips and resources for discussing charitable giving with your clients.
  • Consult with you and your clients on how Sunrise can help them meet their charitable and financial goals, including:
    • Trustee succession planning for people with their own charitable trusts
    • Gifts such as real estate, life insurance policies or shares, that are not easily transferable to other charitable entities.
    • Give a short information session for your staff – request a Sunrise speaker here

Let’s work together to help your clients achieve their charitable goals and make their giving go further, forever.

Imagine if many Tairāwhiti families were to gift 90% of their estate to their family and 10% to Sunrise - what a transformational difference this could make for our region.

Gavin McFarlane (1939-2015)

Gavin McFarlane was a “Gizzy” man who was born into a Patutahi family, with 8 sisters and 7 brothers.

When Gavin’s health started to deteriorate, he thought hard about how he could give back to the community he loved. Bequesting his estate to Sunrise appealed because it meant “the support would go on forever, rather than giving a lump sum that would be gone when it was gone.”

Gavin chose the Cancer Society Gisborne East Coast and Hospice Tairāwhiti as beneficiaries of his donation.

Les McGreevy (1942-2019)

Long time Sunrise supporter Les McGreevy didn't think of himself as a philanthropist, despite the 50 odd years he spent volunteering his time and donating money to charities locally and nationally.

"It’s the fact the donation I give to Sunrise is perpetual that appeals to me. I’ve urged other people to try and give to Sunrise as well.”

Les left a bequest in his will to benefit Sunrise’s General fund. Grants are distributed annually from the General fund to successful applicants with a charitable purpose.
