Alzheimer’s Gisborne establishes fund for the future

Tracy Robinson, Alzheimer’s Gisborne manager said she initiated discussions with her board about establishing a fund, hoping to secure their long-term sustainability.

Glenda Stokes, Sunrise executive officer, says, “Les was an ardent supporter of Sunrise. I’m sure he’d be rapt to know Alzheimer's has established a fund with us using the money he left them.”

Often it comes as a shock to learn that you or a loved one has been diagnosed, and Derek Green, Alzheimer’s board chair remembers this time well. “The care and support we’ve received since learning of my wife’s diagnosis is excellent.”

Derek says Sherwood Club, Alzheimer’s day facility, provides much-needed social contact, cognitive therapy, and entertainment, whilst also giving carers some timeout, secure in the knowledge that their loved ones are well taken care of by staff and volunteers.

“The number of people with dementia is increasing, so we need to ensure the longevity of Alzheimer’s Gisborne. Having a fund with Sunrise is our way to do this.”

Sandra Elsmore, board member says, “We hope the fund raises awareness about the disease and what we offer, especially to those in the community who are isolated or struggling to cope. If we then receive bequests or donations to our fund, people can be reassured knowing their donation will stay local.”

Donate to the Alzheimers Gisborne-Tairāwhiti Endowment Fund and know that all funds will be invested, protected, and grown to keep up with inflation. The surplus investment income will be returned to Alzheimers Gisborne every year forever.
