Almost one-third of people in New Zealand have a personal experience of mental distress.* For some, the emotional pain will become too much, and they may consider suicide as an option of escape.
The tragic thing is that many of those who consider suicide don’t really want to die; they just don’t know how to deal with the pain or situation they’re experiencing and are looking for help to manage this.
Derek & Rebecca Watson wanted to try and make a difference so there will be funding available to enable a life-supporting community, where people can have life-supporting conversations.
This fund supports those working in the suicide prevention space in our community who are having the greatest impact.
