Is your will up to date?

Wills Month, an initiative of Community Foundations of New Zealand, is a good reminder of the importance of having a will and keeping it current. Having an up-to-date will gives you peace of mind that you have made the best plans possible for the people and causes you care about, making it easier for your friends and whanau to do the right thing when the time comes.

For many people, leaving a gift in their will is a more achievable way of fulfilling their long-term charitable goals. Providing for your loved ones is of course the priority, but you may also wish to consider leaving a bequest to a cause or charity through Sunrise.

“Often circumstances dictate that we can’t give as much as we’d like while we’re alive,” says Glenda Stokes, Sunrise executive officer. “A gift in your will, of any denomination, can make an enormous difference for causes you care about in our community but costs you nothing now.”

Unlike a one-off donation given directly to a charity, gifts given to Sunrise are invested in perpetuity, generating income that is distributed annually to community organisations in Tairāwhiti. This means a gift from a generous donor will continue to give back to the causes close to their heart – forever!
