John Clarke QSO, JP
John was born in Gisborne and has spent his entire working life here.
As well as being a grape-grower for the past 40 years, he is a former County Council Chair and Mayor of Gisborne District Council.
John is currently a trustee for the Eastland Community Trust, deputy Chairperson of New Zealand Wine Growers and a former director of Eastland Group Limited. He is also a board member of the Eastwoodhill Trust and has been involved with many other philanthropic organisations on a voluntary basis.
John has a vast knowledge of the region, particularly from his time in local government. He has a wide range of contacts locally and nationally and an understanding of the needs of the local community.
He believes The Sunrise Foundation to be a unique opportunity for people who have a desire to assist a particular group/organisation, or the community generally.
John was awarded a QSO for services to local government and the community in 2009.
