Sunrise Foundation’s annual funding round opens next month, inviting local charities and community organisations to apply for support from Sunrise Foundation’s General Fund.
We know that for many groups, funding isn’t always about launching something new or exciting. Sometimes it’s about keeping the lights on, paying the power bill, supporting staff, or making sure essential services can continue for the people who rely on them. That’s exactly why our annual funding round exists, to provide flexible support that meets organisations where they’re at and responds to the real needs in our community.
Each year, applications are carefully considered by Sunrise Foundation’s experienced voluntary Grants Committee, who work hard to ensure funding is directed to where it will have the greatest impact across Gisborne–Tairāwhiti.
The 2026 funding round opens on 2 June and closes on 2 July at 12 noon. Late applications cannot be accepted, and we do not fund individuals.
All applications must be submitted online via the funding portal, which can be accessed through the Grants page on the Sunrise Foundation website. This will not go 'live' until 2 June. Funding guidelines are also available to download. If you applied for a grant last year via the funding portal, you would need to use the same login email address and password.
If your organisation has a charitable purpose and is based in Gisborne–Tairāwhiti, we encourage you to start preparing your application now. And if you’re unsure whether your project is a good fit, or just want to talk things through, please get in touch, we’re always happy to help.
