A new endowment fund has been established with Sunrise Foundation to support the long-term sustainability of Gisborne's Aviation Museum, ensuring this unique part of our region’s heritage is preserved and shared for generations to come.
Located at Gisborne Airport, the museum tells the story of early flight in the region and honours the pioneers who helped shape aviation on the East Coast. From carefully restored aircraft to personal memorabilia and stories of courage and innovation, the museum connects visitors of all ages with a proud chapter of local history.
The newly established fund called the Gisborne Aviation Museum Endowment Fund, will see donations invested and protected in perpetuity (forever), with annual investment income returned to support the museum's operations, preservation work, and future development.
Linda Hermon, Gisborne Aviation Museum Treasurer, says the fund marks an important milestone. “Our museum is run by passionate volunteers who care deeply about protecting our aviation heritage. This fund gives us confidence for the future. It means we can plan ahead, maintain our collection to a high standard, and continue inspiring people with the stories of those who dared to take to the skies.”
Donations of any size are warmly welcomed to help grow the fund and safeguard this important community treasure well into the future.
