Sunrise supports charities and community organisations in the Gisborne/Tairawhiti region (the area covered by the Gisborne District Council).

We have gifted over thirty grants to community, education, health, sports, arts, heritage and environmental causes in our first two funding rounds in 2015 and 2016.

Sunrise has awarded grants to Centre Stage, Citizens Advice Bureau Gisborne, Diabetes Gisborne, Eastwoodhill Arboretum, Gisborne City Vintage Rail, Gisborne East Coast Cancer, Gisborne Land Search & Rescue, Gisborne Rowing Club, Gisborne Surf Lifesaving, Gisborne Volunteer Centre, Growing Through Grief, Hackfalls Aboretum, Horouta Waka Hoe, Hospice Tairawhiti, Ilminster Intermediate, Longbush Eco Sanctuary, Mangapapa Playcentre, Mangapapa Union Church, Mind Lab, Ngati Porou Hauora, Heart Foundation Gisborne, Surf Lifesaving Gisborne, Swim for Life Tairawhiti, Tairawhiti Community Law, Victim Support Tairawhiti, Whinray Eco Trust.

When you can apply 

We do one funding round per annum in July and August. Applications for the 2018 funding round will open in July 2018. Application dates for the 2018 funding round will announced in June 2018. 


Who can apply

Eligibility and funding priorities are decided each year by our Grants Committee and set out in our funding policy. The application form and funding policy for the 2018 funding round will be available June 2018.
